SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard Dale "Dick" Norton of Aledo, who passed away on June 11, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Dick Norton was born to Floyd and Gladys (Bain) Norton in Trenton, Iowa on November 15, 1934; he was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves; he married Beverly Engwall in Aledo on February 7, 1954; and

WHEREAS, Dick Norton was employed with Contel Telephone for many years; after retiring from Contel, he became the economic development coordinator for the City of Aledo, and he also proudly implemented the 911 system for Mercer County; and

WHEREAS, Dick Norton was a member of the Aledo Exchange Club, the Aledo Masonic Lodge, the Independent Telephone Pioneers Association, the Contel Club, and the Aledo United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed helping in the church's food pantry; and

WHEREAS, Dick Norton enjoyed golfing and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes; and

WHEREAS, Dick Norton was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Harold Norton, Max Norton, and Rex Norton; and his granddaughter-in-law, Amanda; and

WHEREAS, Dick Norton is survived by his sons, Steve (Lisa) Norton and Scott (Ruth) Norton; his grandchildren, Zachary, Trevor, Lacey, Mikhaila, and Breanne; several great-grandchildren; and his sister, Dortha Landrum; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard Dale "Dick" Norton and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dick Norton as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
