SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Willie L. "Red" Coggins of Moline, who
4passed away on June 20, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Red Coggins, the son of John and Pauline Sharpe
6Coggins, was born in Wynne, Arkansas on October 23, 1931; he
7served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War; he married
8Barbara Bevins in Rock Island on May 10, 1958, and she preceded
9him in death on October 25, 2017; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Red Coggins worked as a heating and air service
11technician for the Brooke Company in Davenport, Iowa; after 23
12years of service, he retired in 1986; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Red Coggins enjoyed all kinds of crafts,
14rehabbing houses, camping, traveling, and, at one point,
15raising and selling hostas; he loved spending time with his
16children and grandchildren; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Red Coggins was preceded in death by his parents
18and his siblings, Charline Cook, Roy Coggins, Doris Hughes,
19Alvin Coggins, Agnes Kernoble, Kathleen Dorris, Arnold
20Coggins, Donald Coggins, Marvin Coggins, and Eunice Stanlake;

1    WHEREAS, Red Coggins is survived by his children, Terry
2Coggins, Kim (Richard) Chapman, and Rae (Tim) Carlson; his
3grandchildren, Jay Coggins, Crystal Hill, and Alexandra
4Benzon; his great-grandchildren, Branden, Kali, and Ethan; and
5his great-great-grandchildren, Caila, Oona, Dawson, Daxton,
6Watson, Vaeda, MacKellan, and Nolan; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Willie L. "Red" Coggins and extend our sincere condolences to
10his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Red Coggins as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
