SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Colonel Charles Ronald "Ron" Lovett
4(Ret.) of Pensacola, Florida, who passed away on May 26, 2024;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ron Lovett was born to Charles Lovett and Lucille
7Brickey Lovett in Granite City, Illinois on November 7, 1948;
8he graduated from Jacksonville High School; he received his
9bachelor's degree from Illinois College and earned his
10master's degree from Troy University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ron Lovett served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force
12on active-duty for over 30 years; he later earned the honor of
13becoming the squadron commander for the 15th Special
14Operations Squadron (SOS), based in Hurlburt Field, Fort
15Walton Beach, Florida; he flew AC-130H Spectre gunships and
16later piloted the MC-130E Talon I and the MC-130H Talon II, and
17he acquired over 4,200 flying hours; he also served as a staff
18member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ron Lovett was a recipient of the Bronze Star; he
20was also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak
21leaf clusters, the Air Medal with an oak leaf cluster, the
22Vietnam Service Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal; and

1    WHEREAS, Ron Lovett loved golfing and bowling; he enjoyed
2cheering for the Chicago Cubs, and he was fortunate to see the
3team win the 2016 World Series; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Ron Lovett was a dedicated, loving husband and a
5strong, supportive father for his two sons; he was
6affectionately known as "Papa" to his grandchildren; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ron Lovett was preceded in death by his parents;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ron Lovett is survived by his wife of 52 years,
10Janet Klusmeyer Lovett; his sons, Bryan (Cindy) Lovett and
11Will (Courtney) Lovett; his grandchildren, Meghan, Matthew,
12Britton, Reagan, Willow, and Zachary; his step-grandchildren,
13Dalton and Collin; and his sisters, Jean (Jim) Cook and Pat
14(Bill) Nebel; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Colonel Charles Ronald "Ron" Lovett (Ret.) and extend our
18sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
19and loved him; and be it further
