SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Penelope A. "Penny" Meyer of
4Springfield, who passed away on May 19, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Penny Meyer, the daughter of Helen and Henry
6Heitzig, was born on January 10, 1945; she attended the St.
7Francis and Holy Ghost Catholic Elementary Schools and
8graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1963; she
9earned her bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University
10in 1967; she married TJ Meyer, and he preceded her in death on
11January 10, 2016; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Penny Meyer taught business education and served
13as department chairperson at Springfield Southeast High School
14for 34 years; while there, she made many lifelong friends;
15upon retirement, she received the honor of the school yearbook
16being dedicated to her; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Penny Meyer was grateful for her family, faith,
18and friends; her favorite word was "joy", and she was known for
19inspiring joy in so many others; she was interested in
20everyone, and she had an ability to make people feel seen and
21important when they were around her; and

1    WHEREAS, Penny Meyer is survived by her son, Michael
2(fiancé, Laura Carnes) Meyer; her daughter, Kelly (family
3friend, Arlie Oliver) Meyer; and her sister, Linda
4Distlehorst; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Penelope A. "Penny" Meyer and extend our sincere condolences
8to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
9it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Penny Meyer as an expression of our
12deepest sympathy.
