SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Paul Edward Murphy of Springfield, who passed away on June 8, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Paul Murphy was born to Walter and Ruth Murphy on August 10, 1946; he graduated from Lanphier High School in 1964, where was a member of the state championship-winning basketball team; he married Susan Beekman; he was drafted into the U.S. Air Force, serving four years; he graduated from Sangamon State University; and

WHEREAS, Paul Murphy worked as the computer room supervisor for the Illinois Department of Revenue for 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Paul Murphy committed to his faith at a young age; he was baptized at First Baptist Church in Springfield, where he later served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher; he was a faithful member of Eastview Baptist Church in Springfield; and

WHEREAS, Paul Murphy was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Fighting Illini, and the Green Bay Packers; he enjoyed golfing and watching his grandchildren compete in golf tournaments; he loved reading books, especially his Bible, and spending time with his family and the family dog, Buddy; he also enjoyed going with his family to Disney and the State Fair; and

WHEREAS, Paul Murphy was a man of true character who never met a stranger; and

WHEREAS, Paul Murphy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harold Murphy; and his father-in-law, Darwin Beekman; and

WHEREAS, Paul Murphy is survived by his wife and partner of 58 years, Susan; his daughters, Dawn (Gordon) Carvalho and Erin (Bennie) Fisher; his grandchildren, Nick Armstrong, Natalie Armstrong, Arielle Fisher, Max Fisher, and Tad Fisher; his mother-in-law, Thelma Beekman; his sister, RuthAnn (Bill) Midkiff; his siblings-in-law, Doris Murphy, Janice Swearingen, and Bob Swearingen; his nephews, Chris Murphy and Jeff Swearingen; and his nieces, Annie Midkiff, Lori Luongo, and Lauren Swearingen; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Paul Edward Murphy and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Paul Murphy as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
