SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Sheila Stevenson of Oak Park, who
4passed away on February 28, 2024 at the age of 89; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was born to Henry and Winifred
6(Worley) Stevenson in Paddington in London, England on August
726, 1934; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was evacuated from London during
9World War II and lived in Wales with a host family until after
10the war when her family settled in Sussex; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson graduated with a degree in
12history from the University of Leicester; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was passionate about library
14science; she first came to the United States to work at the
15Baltimore Public Library, and she started working at the Oak
16Park Public Library in 1973; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson had a three-decade-long career
18at the Oak Park Public Library, where she became a great friend
19to co-workers and patrons; she was dedicated to the library's
20mission and made an indelible impression on those around her;

2    WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson served as head of the Readers
3Services Department and then as the head of Collection
4Development at the Oak Park Public Library before retiring in
52002; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson enjoyed theatre, literature, and
7opera, being a longtime Lyric Opera season ticket holder; she
8also enjoyed traveling to the Stratford Festival in Ontario
9for 40 straight years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was an avid appreciator of fine
11dining, and she made a famous trifle; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was preceded in death by her
13parents and her sister, Gillian (Henry) Stevenson Smith; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson is survived by her nephews, Tim
15Smith and Christopher Smith; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Sheila Stevenson and extend our sincere condolences to her
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
