SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Edie Jane Wittenberg of Strasburg, who
4passed away on July 10, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg, the daughter of John Barry
6Wittenberg and Courtney Lyn (Hooten) Wittenberg, was born in
7Mattoon on June 3, 2010; she was an active member of St. Paul's
8Lutheran Church; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg was dedicated to improving her
10athletic skills, and she was a member of the Rapid Fire
11volleyball team and the Mattoon Pride softball team; she was
12looking forward to debuting on the volleyball, softball,
13track, and basketball teams at Stewardson-Strasburg High
14School; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg enjoyed performing TikTok dances
16with her sister, competing against her brothers in any and
17every sport, loudly singing lyrics to every song she heard,
18tanning, and traveling and boating with family and friends;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg radiated a pure love for her
21life, her faith, her family, and her friends; she was a driven,

1determined, and ambitious soul who possessed a contagious
2smile, a compassionate and humble heart, and an electric
3energy that brought everyone joy; she always saw the good in
4everyone and every situation, and she will be remembered for
5touching the lives of everybody around her; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg was preceded in death by her
7infant brother, Andrew Barry Wittenberg; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Edie Wittenberg is survived by her parents; her
9brothers, Jordan John Wittenberg and Austin James Wittenberg;
10her sister, Ellie Lyn Wittenberg; her paternal grandparents,
11John Wittenberg and Judy Wittenberg; her maternal
12grandparents, Jim Hooten and Sally Hooten; her aunts, Sara
13(Kenneth) Hayes and Casey (Dillon) Harley; her uncles, Greg
14(Ali) Hooten and Brad (Amy) Hooten; and her cousins, Hannah
15Hayes, Natalie Hayes, Samantha Hayes, Kendra Hayes, Mia
16Harley, Max Harley, Myles Harley, Mitchell Hooten, Owen
17Hooten, and Noah Hooten; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Edie Jane Wittenberg and extend our sincere condolences to her
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
