| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of John M. Burke of Des Plaines, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on July 9, 2024; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, John Burke was born to Ignatius and Elizabeth | ||||||
| 6 | Burke in New York City, New York on March 27, 1940; he was | ||||||
| 7 | raised in Rye, New York, attending Archbishop Stepinac High | ||||||
| 8 | School in White Plains and Iona College in New Rochelle, both | ||||||
| 9 | in New York; he was a longtime resident of Des Plaines; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, John Burke served as a special agent with Army | ||||||
| 11 | Intelligence, U.S. Army, and he then pursued a career in the | ||||||
| 12 | security and investigations industry; he served as chairman of | ||||||
| 13 | the Chicago Chapter of the American Society for Industrial | ||||||
| 14 | Security and was a member of the Special Agents Association; | ||||||
| 15 | and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, John Burke lived a life of service to his church | ||||||
| 17 | and community; he attended St. Stephen Protomartyr Church, | ||||||
| 18 | where he served as a member of the parish council, as chairman | ||||||
| 19 | of the lectors, and as a representative to the Archdiocesan | ||||||
| 20 | Pastoral Council; he served as president of the Des Plaines | ||||||
| 21 | History Center, the Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines, and the Des | ||||||
| 22 | Plaines Library Board; he was active with Crime Stoppers, | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | PADS, and Meals on Wheels; he also served as a reading tutor | ||||||
| 2 | and mentor at Forest Elementary School for six years; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, John Burke deeply loved his family, and he | ||||||
| 4 | actively supported his daughters, took every opportunity to be | ||||||
| 5 | involved in his granddaughter's life, and enjoyed attending | ||||||
| 6 | family reunions in the Catskills; he also loved studying | ||||||
| 7 | geography, history, and archaeology, and he was skilled at | ||||||
| 8 | playing Trivial Pursuit; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, John Burke was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 10 | his sister, Joan (John) Turner; and his niece, Shannon Turner; | ||||||
| 11 | and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, John Burke is survived by his wife of 55 years, | ||||||
| 13 | Marie; his daughters, Katherine and Michelle; his | ||||||
| 14 | granddaughter, Vivian; his siblings, Regina (John) Vassak and | ||||||
| 15 | Kevin (Elise) Burke; his cousin, Vivian "Pat" Burke; five | ||||||
| 16 | nephews; and dozens of cousins; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 19 | John M. Burke and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 21 | further | ||||||
