| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Glen F. Oest of Havana, who passed |
| 4 | | away on June 28, 2024; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Glen Oest was born to Edward and Annie (Hagney) |
| 6 | | Oest in Havana on April 18, 1926; he married Marilyn Verla |
| 7 | | Connolly on January 30, 1948, and she preceded him in death on |
| 8 | | May 8, 2020; he served as a quartermaster in the U.S. Army at a |
| 9 | | prison camp in Hawaii during World War II, and he later served |
| 10 | | on a ship in the South Pacific during the testing of the atomic |
| 11 | | bomb; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Glen Oest was a lifelong farmer in Mason County, |
| 13 | | retiring in 1996; early in his career, he was named |
| 14 | | Outstanding Young Farmer by the Havana Jaycees in 1955; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Glen Oest was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran |
| 16 | | Church and American Legion Post #138, both in Havana; he |
| 17 | | enjoyed serving as a weather reporter with the National |
| 18 | | Weather Service for over 25 years; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Glen Oest was preceded in death by his parents; |
| 20 | | his siblings, Edward Oest and Nelda Kolves; and his |
| 21 | | great-granddaughter, Jolie Blakely; and |
