SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Glen F. Oest of Havana, who passed
4away on June 28, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Glen Oest was born to Edward and Annie (Hagney)
6Oest in Havana on April 18, 1926; he married Marilyn Verla
7Connolly on January 30, 1948, and she preceded him in death on
8May 8, 2020; he served as a quartermaster in the U.S. Army at a
9prison camp in Hawaii during World War II, and he later served
10on a ship in the South Pacific during the testing of the atomic
11bomb; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Glen Oest was a lifelong farmer in Mason County,
13retiring in 1996; early in his career, he was named
14Outstanding Young Farmer by the Havana Jaycees in 1955; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Glen Oest was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran
16Church and American Legion Post #138, both in Havana; he
17enjoyed serving as a weather reporter with the National
18Weather Service for over 25 years; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Glen Oest was preceded in death by his parents;
20his siblings, Edward Oest and Nelda Kolves; and his
21great-granddaughter, Jolie Blakely; and

1    WHEREAS, Glen Oest is survived by his children, Tim Oest
2and Nancy (Gary) Blakely; four grandchildren; five
3great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and his
4brother, Robert Oest; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Glen F. Oest and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
8friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Glen Oest as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
