SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Robert John "Bob" Gushanas of Colona,
4who passed away on July 1, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas, the son of Eli and Alice Pederson
6Gushanas, was born in Rock Island on January 22, 1946; he
7graduated from Rock Island High School in 1964; he served in
8the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict, where he was
9stationed at the demilitarized zone in Korea from 1965 to
101967; he was honorably discharged in 1968; he married Diane
11Steffen in Cambridge on September 26, 1970; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas worked at John Deere Harvester Works
13for 43 years, retiring in 2005; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas was a member the Korean War Vets,
15having served as state president of Illinois; he was a past
16commander of the Colona American Legion, where he was a member
17of the Honor Guard Team; he also belonged to the Bi-County
18Memorial Association of the Rock Island Arsenal; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating,
20playing chess, and collecting coins; he was a proud blood
21donor who donated over 10 gallons of blood; his greatest joy

1was spending time with his grandchildren; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas was preceded in death by his
3parents; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bob Gushanas is survived by his wife of 53 years,
5Diane; his sons, Erik Gushanas and Cory (Amy) Gushanas; five
6grandchildren; one step-grandson; and his siblings, Daniel
7(Judy) Gushanas and Ann Edwards; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Robert John "Bob" Gushanas and extend our sincere condolences
11to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
12it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Bob Gushanas as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
