SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of Fred M. Lear of Rock Island, who 
4passed away on July 12, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Fred Lear was born to Fred and Maybel Dyer-Lear 
6on March 17, 1936; he graduated from Rock Island High School 
7and Augustana College, where he was a standout baseball player 
8at both places; he served in the U.S. Army as a communication 
9specialist; he married Carol A. Johnson on June 14, 1958; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Fred Lear taught in the East Moline School system 
11for 30 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Fred Lear was a decades-long member of First 
13Lutheran Church in Rock Island, where he sang in the choir and 
14bowled in the church league; he enjoyed traveling, especially 
15his annual trips to Colorado with his family, golfing with his 
16son and grandchildren, cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Bears, 
17and spending time with his wife; he was a loving husband, 
18father, and grandfather; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Fred Lear was preceded in death by his parents 
20and his siblings, Roy Lear, Glenn Lear, Fran Lear, Helen 
21Smith, Faye Hannon, Ruth Kenney, Mary Rothwell, Janet Young,

1Nina Lindley, Zelma Miles, and Jeanne Jackson; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Fred Lear is survived by his wife of 68 years, 
3Carol; his children, Chris (Lyn) Lear and Lori Landbo (Tom 
4Baker); his grandchildren, Sydney and Ethan Lear; and his 
5brother and sister-in-law, David Johnson and Ginny (Fred) 
6Behnken; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
9Fred M. Lear and extend our sincere condolences to his family, 
10friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to the family of Fred Lear as an expression of our 
13deepest sympathy.
