SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of James Vogel "Jim" DeVries of Silvis,
4who passed away on June 19, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim DeVries, the son of Andrew and Janna Vogel
6DeVries, was born in Morrison on November 6, 1943; he served in
7the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jim DeVries spent his career as a truck driver,
9retiring from Standard Forwarding; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jim DeVries volunteered for several organizations
11over the years, including the Bix 7 and the Patriot Guard; he
12also coached softball teams for many years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jim DeVries was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes
14and the Chicago Bears; known for being fun-loving and social,
15he enjoyed drinking coffee and conversing at Porky's in the
16mornings; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Jim DeVries was preceded in death by his parents;
18his sister, Mary Heffernan; and his brother-in-law, Roger
19Haan; and

1    WHEREAS, Jim DeVries is survived by his fiance, Linda De
2La Cruz; his daughters, Sherrie (Kenny McGinnis) Newman, Cindy
3(Eddie) Volquardsen, and Jeni (Chad) Wagner; five
4grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Jane
5Haan, Sue Bond, Nan Martina, and Martha (Jon) Kophamer; and
6several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9James Vogel "Jim" DeVries and extend our sincere condolences
10to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
11it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Jim DeVries as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
