| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to |
| 3 | | congratulate the Ariston Cafe in Litchfield on the occasion of |
| 4 | | its 100th anniversary; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The Ariston Cafe is believed to be the oldest, |
| 6 | | continuously operated cafe on the entire U.S. Highway 66, |
| 7 | | popularly known as Route 66; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The Ariston Cafe was founded by Pete Adam, a |
| 9 | | Greek immigrant, in Carlinville on Route 4, the predecessor of |
| 10 | | Route 66, in 1924; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The Ariston Cafe was relocated to Litchfield in |
| 12 | | 1929, and it was moved to its present location on Old Route 66 |
| 13 | | North in 1935; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The Ariston Cafe's operations were taken over by |
| 15 | | Pete Adam's son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Demi Adam, in |
| 16 | | 1966, and the couple continued to offer the traditional |
| 17 | | service expected of a family-owned-and-operated American |
| 18 | | restaurant; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, The Ariston Cafe and the Adam family were |
| 20 | | inducted into the Route 66 Hall of Fame in 1992; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The Ariston Cafe was placed on the National |
| 2 | | Register of Historical Places by the State of Illinois and the |
| 3 | | National Park Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior |
| 4 | | in May 2006; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The Ariston Cafe was purchased by its current |
| 6 | | owners, Will and Michele Law and Marty and Kara Steffens, all |
| 7 | | of Litchfield, in July 2018; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The Ariston Cafe continues to offer a variety of |
| 9 | | comfort food fare, including Southern, Greek, Italian, and |
| 10 | | Mexican entrees, and a variety of desserts made onsite; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The Ariston Cafe celebrated its 100th anniversary |
| 12 | | with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Litchfield Chamber of |
| 13 | | Commerce on July 17, 2024; therefore, be it
|
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
| 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the |
| 16 | | Ariston Cafe in Litchfield on its 100th anniversary, and we |
| 17 | | wish the historic establishment continued success; and be it |
| 18 | | further

| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 20 | | delivered to the Ariston Cafe as a symbol of our esteem and |
