SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Del's Popcorn Shop in Decatur is one of the 
3oldest popcorn shops in the United States; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Baldwin opened Del's, then known as The 
5Popcorn Shop, in historic downtown Decatur in 1934; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In the 1960s, Del Barnett took over operations of 
7the Popcorn Shop, and he renamed it Del's Popcorn Shop; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Del's was purchased by the current owner, the 
9Jacobs Family, in the 1970s; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ever since its founding, the mission of Del's has 
11been to provide joy to its customers through simple, classic, 
12and delicious popcorn and candy products every day; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Del's has become a central Illinois institution, 
14and the shop holds a place in the hearts of hundreds, if not 
15thousands, of people across the U.S.; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Del's is in conversations to open new locations 
17throughout the United States both as company-owned locations 
18and franchises; and

1    WHEREAS, Del's has become a top-seller on Amazon, where 
2the shop's famous red popcorn tin is included in Amazon's 
3Overall Choice selection and continues to experience 
4magnificent growth with new customers across America; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The year 2024 marks the 90th anniversary of the 
6opening of Del's; and
 
7    WHEREAS, To celebrate this anniversary, Del's will release 
8new packaging, introduce new retail concepts, and renovate the 
9existing retail locations to enhance the customer experience, 
10starting in 2024; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Del's has also created a new fundraising platform 
12to support local causes, sports leagues, and other non-profit 
13organizations; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Del's hosted two 90th anniversary parties on July 
1527th at the Mt. Zion and Springfield retail locations; 
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Del's 
19Popcorn Shop on its 90th anniversary in 2024; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
