| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Richard A. "Dick" Farrar of Moline, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on August 18, 2024; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dick Farrar, the son of Arthur R. Farrar and | ||||||
| 6 | Hazel M. (Shellberg) Farrar, was born in Moline on March 12, | ||||||
| 7 | 1933; he attended Ericksen Elementary School, John Deere | ||||||
| 8 | Junior High School, and Moline High School; he graduated from | ||||||
| 9 | Rock Island High School in 1951; he was a lifelong resident of | ||||||
| 10 | Moline, with the exception of his senior year of high school; | ||||||
| 11 | after high school, he attended Augustana College and Black | ||||||
| 12 | Hawk College, and he worked in carpentry and other jobs; he was | ||||||
| 13 | drafted in July 1956, serving as a signalman in the U.S. Army; | ||||||
| 14 | he married Margaret Victoria Thompson in Summit, Iowa on June | ||||||
| 15 | 20, 1959; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Dick Farrar, a proud fourth generation Deere & | ||||||
| 17 | Company employee, had a nearly 40-year career with the | ||||||
| 18 | organization; he began as an industrial engineering supervisor | ||||||
| 19 | at Malleable Works in 1958; during his tenure, he completed | ||||||
| 20 | his associate's degree at Black Hawk College, held a variety | ||||||
| 21 | of positions within the company related to information | ||||||
| 22 | services, and was instrumental in the development of a | ||||||
| 23 | computerized parts catalog system and a competitor parts | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | matching program for dealers; he retired as manager of Parts | ||||||
| 2 | Information in 1997; he was noted by colleagues for his vision | ||||||
| 3 | and commitment to excellence; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Dick Farrar was raised in the Lutheran faith; as | ||||||
| 5 | an adult, he occasionally attended First United Presbyterian | ||||||
| 6 | Church in Moline, where his wife, Margaret, was a devoted | ||||||
| 7 | member and he was active in the senior fellowship group | ||||||
| 8 | Photeinos; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Dick Farrar loved spending time outdoors, and he | ||||||
| 10 | took his family on many camping and fishing trips; he became an | ||||||
| 11 | enthusiastic tennis player in late middle age, and he enjoyed | ||||||
| 12 | watching Wimbledon on television; he was an ace ping pong | ||||||
| 13 | player in his youth, playing well into his eighties; he was a | ||||||
| 14 | lifelong chess player, and he enjoyed playing chess online | ||||||
| 15 | with his friend, Chuck Sanders, in recent years; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Dick Farrar is survived by his children, Victoria | ||||||
| 17 | "Vicki" (Shaun) Graves, Valerie Farrar, and Arthur Richard | ||||||
| 18 | "Rick" (Dena) Farrar; his granddaughters, Charlotte Graves, | ||||||
| 19 | Clara Graves, Cordelia Farrar, and Gwenyth Farrar; his cousin, | ||||||
| 20 | Carol Shellberg; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, | ||||||
| 21 | be it | ||||||
| 22 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||

| 1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 2 | Richard A. "Dick" Farrar and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 3 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 4 | further | ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 6 | presented to the family of Dick Farrar as an expression of our | ||||||
