SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of Reverend Jerry D. McGraw, who passed 
4away on August 22, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jerry McGraw was born to Zach and Dorothy McGraw 
6in Memphis, Tennessee on April 18, 1940; he moved to Chicago 
7and attended Dunbar Vocational High School; he served in the 
8U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and returned home as a 
9chemical engineer; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jerry McGraw worked as an operational engineer at 
11the City of Chicago Purification Plant for 30 years; he held 
12various roles within the City of Chicago, including at the 
13Chicago Tribune; he also ran his own small business as a 
14funeral home director; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jerry McGraw's faith from an early age inspired 
16him to become an ordained minister; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Jerry McGraw's extraordinary life was a testament 
18to faith, love, compassion, and unwavering strength; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jerry McGraw was preceded in death by his 
20siblings and his children, Yelleta and Jerry Jr.; and

1    WHEREAS, Jerry McGraw's greatest joy in life was his wife 
2of 50 years, Betty McGraw, and they had six children together, 
3Joshuia, Darryl, Marschan, Stantevia, Nakita (Kevin), and 
4Daniel; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
7Reverend Jerry D. McGraw and extend our sincere condolences to 
8his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to the family of Jerry McGraw as an expression of our 
12deepest sympathy.
