SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Theodore "Ted" Lovett, who passed away on August 14, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Ted Lovett was born to Sam Lovett Jr. and Jahaza Newell Lovett in Heidelberg, Mississippi on February 27, 1945, the tenth of twelve children; he committed to his faith at an early age, and he was baptized at Oak Bowery United Methodist Church; he attended South Side High School in Heidelberg; he relocated to Chicago in the late 1960s, where he met his wife, Angela; and

WHEREAS, Ted Lovett served as a member of the historic Pullman Porter Team, where he enjoyed meeting people and visiting new cities; he later worked as a construction worker until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Ted Lovett enjoyed the outdoors, including family fishing trips; he was known for his impressive home garden and was an enthusiastic fan of music, with his favorite artist being Sam Cooke; and

WHEREAS, Ted Lovett was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and his siblings, Hattie Windham, Sam Earl Lovett, and Pinkie Harrison; and

WHEREAS, Ted Lovett is survived by his sons, Andre (Sharita) Lovett, Terrance Lovett, and Theodore Shafford Lovett; his grandchildren, Andre Lovett and Keyaria Lovett; his siblings, Annie Nixon, Addie (Willie) Jenkins, John (Fayola) Lovett, Kittie Watts, Florine (Robert) Dister, Hilmer (Mary Jean) Lovett, Henry (Mary Virginia) Lovett, and Margaret (Roy Sr.) Tolbert; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Theodore "Ted" Lovett and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ted Lovett as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
