SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Theodore "Ted" Lovett, who passed away
4on August 14, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ted Lovett was born to Sam Lovett Jr. and Jahaza
6Newell Lovett in Heidelberg, Mississippi on February 27, 1945,
7the tenth of twelve children; he committed to his faith at an
8early age, and he was baptized at Oak Bowery United Methodist
9Church; he attended South Side High School in Heidelberg; he
10relocated to Chicago in the late 1960s, where he met his wife,
11Angela; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ted Lovett served as a member of the historic
13Pullman Porter Team, where he enjoyed meeting people and
14visiting new cities; he later worked as a construction worker
15until his retirement; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Ted Lovett enjoyed the outdoors, including family
17fishing trips; he was known for his impressive home garden and
18was an enthusiastic fan of music, with his favorite artist
19being Sam Cooke; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ted Lovett was preceded in death by his wife; his
21parents; and his siblings, Hattie Windham, Sam Earl Lovett,

1and Pinkie Harrison; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Ted Lovett is survived by his sons, Andre
3(Sharita) Lovett, Terrance Lovett, and Theodore Shafford
4Lovett; his grandchildren, Andre Lovett and Keyaria Lovett;
5his siblings, Annie Nixon, Addie (Willie) Jenkins, John
6(Fayola) Lovett, Kittie Watts, Florine (Robert) Dister, Hilmer
7(Mary Jean) Lovett, Henry (Mary Virginia) Lovett, and Margaret
8(Roy Sr.) Tolbert; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Theodore "Ted" Lovett and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Ted Lovett as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
