SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Mohamed Miah Ali Mohamed; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mohamed Miah Ali Mohamed was born in Burma, where
5he witnessed British rule, post-colonial independence, and the
6Rohingya Genocide; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mohamed Miah Ali Mohamed left Burma due to the
8persecution against him and his community, living the majority
9of his adult life in different countries; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mohamed Miah Ali Mohamed resettled in Chicago in
112015, where he attended English and citizenship classes,
12eventually becoming a U.S. citizen in 2021; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mohamed Miah Ali Mohamed served as a board member
14of the Rohingya Culture Center to assist the people of Burma;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mohamed Miah Ali Mohamed continuously advocated
17for Burma, traveling to Washington D.C. to meet with the
18United States Department of State to advocate for his home
19country; and

1    WHEREAS, Mohamed Miah Ali Mohamed always focused on how he
2could help others; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Mohamed Miah Ali Mohamed and extend our sincere condolences to
6his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Mohamed Miah Ali Mohamed as an
10expression of our deepest sympathy.
