| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, For over 60 years, surgical technology has grown | ||||||
| 3 | to meet the ever-increasing demand for well-educated, | ||||||
| 4 | highly-skilled, and versatile surgical technologists; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Surgical technologists are entrusted with the | ||||||
| 6 | lives and well-being of patients and provide a critical | ||||||
| 7 | service during surgical procedures; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Over 100,000 surgical technologists nationwide | ||||||
| 9 | are an integral part of the surgical team committed to | ||||||
| 10 | providing the highest quality of surgical care to patients; | ||||||
| 11 | and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Surgical technologists are responsible for the | ||||||
| 13 | application of sterile and aseptic technique in the operating | ||||||
| 14 | room, ensuring that equipment functions properly and | ||||||
| 15 | facilitating safe and effective conduct during invasive | ||||||
| 16 | surgical procedure; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Surgical technologists strive to prevent | ||||||
| 18 | life-threatening surgical site infections and maximize patient | ||||||
| 19 | safety; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Certified surgical technologists graduate from an | ||||||

| 1 | accredited program and receive certification conferred by the | ||||||
| 2 | National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting | ||||||
| 3 | based upon passage of the national examination; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The surgical technologist's motto "Aeger Primo", | ||||||
| 5 | which means "the patient first", reflects total commitment to | ||||||
| 6 | patient safety and advocacy; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare September | ||||||
| 9 | 15-21, 2024 as Surgical Technologists Week in the State of | ||||||
| 10 | Illinois; and be it further | ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, That we recognize the 55,000 surgical | ||||||
| 12 | technologists who hold certified surgical technologist (CST) | ||||||
| 13 | credentials as they celebrate National Surgical Technologists | ||||||
| 14 | Week from September 15-21, 2024; and be it further | ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 16 | presented to the Association of Surgical Technologists as a | ||||||
| 17 | symbol of our respect and esteem. | ||||||
