| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Richard E. "Dick" Poynter of |
| 4 | | Springfield, who passed away on August 15, 2024; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dick Poynter was born in Springfield to Richard |
| 6 | | H. Poynter and Ann (German) Whalen on October 28, 1949; he |
| 7 | | graduated from Athens High School in 1967 and the University |
| 8 | | of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 1972, where he earned his |
| 9 | | bachelor's degree in accounting; he married Sharon Suberkropp |
| 10 | | in Mendota on August 29, 1971; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dick Poynter worked for Nudo Products, where he |
| 12 | | was the CFO, and also had a large private tax practice; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Dick Poynter was a member of Laurel United |
| 14 | | Methodist Church and Friends of the Sangamon Valley, where he |
| 15 | | was the current president; he enjoyed camping with his |
| 16 | | grandchildren, mushroom hunting, pickleball, and basketball; |
| 17 | | he was a connoisseur of craft beer, enjoyed reading Abraham |
| 18 | | Lincoln history books, volunteered at the Abraham Lincoln |
| 19 | | Presidential Museum, and was an avid Illini fan; he was a |
| 20 | | vibrant, hard-working, altruistic, life of the party fellow |
| 21 | | and was known as "Cool Dude" by his grandchildren; and |
