| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of James Lewis "Jim" Diekroeger, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on August 14, 2024; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Jim Diekroeger, the son of Manuel L. Diekroeger, | ||||||
| 6 | M.D. and Katharine E. Wilson Diekroeger, was born in | ||||||
| 7 | Marceline, Missouri on November 12, 1934; he received a | ||||||
| 8 | Bachelor of Science from Central Methodist University in 1956 | ||||||
| 9 | and earned graduate degrees from Indiana University and | ||||||
| 10 | Missouri University in 1959 and 1962, respectively; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Jim Diekroeger taught secondary education in | ||||||
| 12 | Davenport, Iowa for one year and then served as a faculty | ||||||
| 13 | member at Southern Illinois University for four years; he | ||||||
| 14 | later served at executive levels of both the Missouri and | ||||||
| 15 | Illinois State Health Departments; he developed the trauma | ||||||
| 16 | center system for the hospitals in Illinois and the first | ||||||
| 17 | state certified public health department in the City of | ||||||
| 18 | Springfield in 1975, administering the department until his | ||||||
| 19 | retirement in 1986; he founded and served as president of | ||||||
| 20 | Netco, Inc., an environmental consulting and testing company, | ||||||
| 21 | retiring in 1992; and | ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Jim Diekroeger and his family resided in Sherman | ||||||

| 1 | from 1966 until 2005, where he served as a two-term village | ||||||
| 2 | trustee and a two-term member of the Williamsville-Sherman | ||||||
| 3 | Board of Education; he was instrumental in starting the | ||||||
| 4 | Williamsville High School football team; he was also a member | ||||||
| 5 | of the original Sherman Volunteer Fire Department and the | ||||||
| 6 | Sherman Methodist Church, and he served as president of the | ||||||
| 7 | North Sangamon County Kiwanis Club; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Jim Diekroeger was active in high school and | ||||||
| 9 | collegiate athletics; he loved traveling, trout fishing in | ||||||
| 10 | Missouri and Arkansas, learning about American history and | ||||||
| 11 | literature, woodworking, and listening to country humor and | ||||||
| 12 | barbershop musical harmonies; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Jim Diekroeger was preceded in death by his wife | ||||||
| 14 | of 65 years, Lettie Anne Hicks; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Jim Diekroeger is survived by his daughters, Lisa | ||||||
| 16 | (Jim) Stone and Leigh (Chris) Flatt; two grandsons; and two | ||||||
| 17 | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 20 | James Lewis "Jim" Diekroeger and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 21 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 22 | him; and be it further | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 2 | presented to the family of Jim Diekroeger as an expression of | ||||||
| 3 | our deepest sympathy. | ||||||
