SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David Wesley "Dave" Combs of Taylorville, who passed away on August 18, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Dave Combs, the son of Shaw and Olive (Welker) Combs, was born in Hillsboro on April 1, 1937; he was raised on the family farm in Coffeen; he graduated from Hillsboro High School and the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin; he served as a private specialist 4 in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959, including more than two years in Korea; he married Sally Thomas Williams in Hillsboro on April 20, 1962; and

WHEREAS, Dave Combs began his career as a bank teller, working his way up to the positions of president and CEO at the First National Bank in Taylorville, serving as president for 25 years and retiring after 54 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Dave Combs served as director on the boards of First Bancorp and West Main Reality Group for 43 years; he was a founding member of the former Independent Community Banks in Illinois, now the Community Bankers Association of Illinois, serving as president from 1983 to 1984; he was also a member of several other banking association boards; and

WHEREAS, Dave Combs was a lifetime member of the VFW, where he served in many roles, including calling the commands for the honor guard for 40 years; he was also a member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church, Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the American Quarter Horse Association; and

WHEREAS, Dave Combs loved watching Westerns, listening to country music, and riding through farmlands; he enjoyed traveling with his wife to conventions throughout the U.S., especially in the Southwest; he was the proud owner of many horses throughout the years, including his most recent horse, Ranger; and

WHEREAS, Dave Combs was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his siblings, Loren Combs, Jack Combs, and Nora Kumple; and

WHEREAS, Dave Combs is survived by his children, Kelley (John) Williams Davidson, Shawne Combs Woodard, and Shad (Patti Quinn) Combs; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David Wesley "Dave" Combs and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dave Combs as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
