SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 
3congratulate former Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose on his 
4retirement from the NBA after 16 seasons; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was born and raised in the Englewood 
6neighborhood on Chicago's South Side and attended Simeon 
7Career Academy, where he helped the school become the first in 
8the Chicago Public League to win two straight state 
9championships in basketball; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was selected number one by the 
11Chicago Bulls out of the University of Memphis in the 2008 NBA 
12Draft; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Derrick Rose won NBA Rookie of the Year in 2009 
14after averaging 16.8 points and 6.3 assists per game and 
15followed that with the first of his three All-Star seasons; 
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was selected as NBA MVP at the age of 
1822 in 2011 and is still the youngest player in league history 
19to win MVP; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Derrick Rose averaged 19.7 points, 6.2 assists,

1and 3.7 rebounds per game in seven seasons with the Bulls; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Derrick Rose played for the New York Knicks, 
3Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, 
4and Memphis Grizzlies after leaving the Bulls; therefore, be 
5it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that congratulate former 
8Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose on his retirement from the NBA 
9after 16 seasons, and we wish him the best in all his future 
10endeavors; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to Derrick Rose as a symbol of our respect and 
13esteem.
