SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of George Thompson of Oak Park, who
4passed away on December 8, 2023 at the age of 74; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Thompson was born to Wilbur and Virginia
6(Sibley) Thompson in Tuscola on September 23, 1949; and
 
7    WHEREAS, George Thompson began his studies in mathematics
8at Eastern Illinois University in 1971; he earned a master's
9degree from the University of Illinois in 1973 and later
10received an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1983; and
 
11    WHEREAS, George Thompson moved to Chicago in 1973, where
12he met his wife, Debra (Hayes) Thompson, whom he married in
131978; and
 
14    WHEREAS, George Thompson spent his career in IT, working
15with companies such as Allstate, Kraft Foods, and IBM; after
16semi-retiring in 2011, he taught mathematics part-time at
17DeVry University; and
 
18    WHEREAS, George Thompson and his wife moved to Oak Park in
191980, where they raised their son, Paul Matthew Thompson, and
20lived there for over four decades, before moving to Westfield,

1Indiana in 2021; and
 
2    WHEREAS, George Thompson loved walking his dog, Gabby; he
3was an active member of the Computer Measurement Group that
4published papers on capacity planning; he was a community
5political activist, advocating for non-punitive approaches to
6teenage drug usage; and
 
7    WHEREAS, George Thompson was an active member of Grace
8Lutheran Church; and
 
9    WHEREAS, George Thompson enjoyed dancing, photography,
10playing tennis, hiking, and traveling, including trips to
11Australia, New Zealand, the Fiji Islands, and the Grand Canyon
12and a transatlantic trip on the Queen Mary 2; and
 
13    WHEREAS, George Thompson is survived by his wife, Debra;
14his son, Paul; his siblings, Carol Sheldon and Robert
15Thompson; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18George Thompson and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
