SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Maria de los Angeles Herrera of North Riverside, who passed away on June 25, 2024 at the age of 58; and

WHEREAS, Maria Herrera was born to Maria and Jose M. Herrera in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico on April 3, 1966; she was one of eight sisters; and

WHEREAS, Maria Herrera became a U.S. citizen in the late 1980s, and she resided in Cicero for a time; and

WHEREAS, Maria Herrera studied business administration at National Louis University; and

WHEREAS, Maria Herrera worked in customer service and gas transportation for Peoples Gas for approximately 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Maria Herrera was dedicated to serving the Latino community and volunteered with various non-profit organizations concerned with immigration issues; and

WHEREAS, Maria Herrera served as a catechist and adult faith facilitator; she participated in various other services at St. Mary Catholic Church in Riverside; and

WHEREAS, Maria Herrera resided with her husband, Matthew Brophy, in North Riverside; her first son, Gabriel, graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in environmental stability and geology; her second son, Diego, is studying at the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Maria Herrera is survived by her husband; her children; her siblings, Yolanda (the late Artemio), Isabel (Carlos), Roselia, Yrma (Manuel), Fanny (the late Jose Luis), Tereza (Pedro), Maria Luisa (James), and Alma (Ismael); and more than 40 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Maria de los Angeles Herrera and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Maria Herrera as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
