| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Maria de los Angeles Herrera of North |
| 4 | | Riverside, who passed away on June 25, 2024 at the age of 58; |
| 5 | | and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Maria Herrera was born to Maria and Jose M. |
| 7 | | Herrera in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico on April 3, 1966; she |
| 8 | | was one of eight sisters; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Maria Herrera became a U.S. citizen in the late |
| 10 | | 1980s, and she resided in Cicero for a time; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Maria Herrera studied business administration at |
| 12 | | National Louis University; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Maria Herrera worked in customer service and gas |
| 14 | | transportation for Peoples Gas for approximately 30 years; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Maria Herrera was dedicated to serving the Latino |
| 16 | | community and volunteered with various non-profit |
| 17 | | organizations concerned with immigration issues; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Maria Herrera served as a catechist and adult |
| 19 | | faith facilitator; she participated in various other services |

| 1 | | at St. Mary Catholic Church in Riverside; and |
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Maria Herrera resided with her husband, Matthew |
| 3 | | Brophy, in North Riverside; her first son, Gabriel, graduated |
| 4 | | from the University of Illinois with a degree in environmental |
| 5 | | stability and geology; her second son, Diego, is studying at |
| 6 | | the University of Illinois; and |
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Maria Herrera is survived by her husband; her |
| 8 | | children; her siblings, Yolanda (the late Artemio), Isabel |
| 9 | | (Carlos), Roselia, Yrma (Manuel), Fanny (the late Jose Luis), |
| 10 | | Tereza (Pedro), Maria Luisa (James), and Alma (Ismael); and |
| 11 | | more than 40 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it |
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
| 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 14 | | Maria de los Angeles Herrera and extend our sincere |
| 15 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
| 16 | | her; and be it further |
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 18 | | presented to the family of Maria Herrera as an expression of |
| 19 | | our deepest sympathy. |
