| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Gilbert Sidney "G.P." Perry, who |
| 4 | | passed away on November 9, 2024; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Perry was born to Jim Blaine Perry and |
| 6 | | Ella Booker Perry in Lee County, Arkansas on June 9, 1922; at |
| 7 | | the age of 18, after the passing of his mother, he moved to |
| 8 | | East St. Louis; he served in the U.S. Army and was a member of |
| 9 | | several Black Regiments sent to Germany, in rotation to |
| 10 | | complete the Ledo Road on the India-Burma Border to China; |
| 11 | | after returning to East St. Louis, he married Hattie Powell, |
| 12 | | and they adopted one son, James "Jimmy" Perry; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Perry worked for the Swift Meat Packing |
| 14 | | Company; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Perry loved traveling abroad and across |
| 16 | | the United States, visiting relatives and friends everywhere |
| 17 | | he went; he cherished his family and always kept in tough |
| 18 | | through phone calls or visits; he ensured that a family |
| 19 | | reunion was held every two years, and he attended each one; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Perry was preceded in death by his wife; |
| 21 | | his companion, Marcella Donald; and his son, James "Jimmy" |
