SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas J. "Tom" Roger, who passed away on October 1, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Tom Roger was born to Edward and Mary (Boehle) Roger in Peoria on February 17, 1942; he attended Mid County Schools, graduating in 1960; he served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966, during which he was stationed in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966; and

WHEREAS, Tom Roger worked for the Marshall County Highway Department for 42 years, retiring in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Tom Roger was a founding member of the Chillicothe Recreational Area, and he was also a member of the Peoria Barbershop Society Chorus; and

WHEREAS, Tom Roger helped start the Lacon Merchants fast-pitch softball team in the 1970s, leading the team through many names, including the Lacon Merchants, Blarney Castle, and the Lacon Bombers, before finally merging with Two Brothers Tap; and

WHEREAS, Tom Roger enjoyed snowmobiling, and he was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Tom Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Tom Roger is survived by his siblings, Anne (Bob Haas) Roger, Charlie (Lori) Roger, John Roger, and Bill Roger; his niece, Katherine (Scott Schwartz) Roger; and his nephew, Jonathan Roger; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Thomas J. "Tom" Roger and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Tom Roger as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
