| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Nelson A. "Pete" Wright III, M.D., who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on November 4, 2024; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright, the son of Dr. Nelson A. Wright Jr. | ||||||
| 6 | and Melba Rose Wright, was born on March 16, 1931; he graduated | ||||||
| 7 | from Pekin High School in 1949 and Kenyon College in Gambier, | ||||||
| 8 | Ohio in 1953; he married Barbara Ann Johnson on July 9, 1955; | ||||||
| 9 | he received his Doctor of Medicine from the Abraham Lincoln | ||||||
| 10 | School of Medicine, now the University of Illinois Chicago, in | ||||||
| 11 | 1957; he served in the U.S. Army, and he was discharged with | ||||||
| 12 | the rank of captain; he completed his Internal Medicine | ||||||
| 13 | Residency at Illinois Central Hospital in Chicago and later | ||||||
| 14 | became certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of | ||||||
| 15 | Medical Specialties; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright practiced medicine with his father in | ||||||
| 17 | Pekin for 37 years, retiring in 1997; he was an active | ||||||
| 18 | attending staff member at Pekin Memorial Hospital, now Carle | ||||||
| 19 | Health Pekin Hospital, where he was twice elected to serve as | ||||||
| 20 | president of the staff; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright was a member of Grace United Methodist | ||||||
| 22 | Church of Pekin, a lifelong member of the Pekin Country Club, | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | and a dedicated Shriner whose good standing led to his | ||||||
| 2 | invitation to join the Royal Order of Jesters; he regularly | ||||||
| 3 | donated to his church, the Salvation Army, Pekin Memorial | ||||||
| 4 | Hospital, the Tazewell Animal Protective Society (TAPS), and | ||||||
| 5 | Kenyon College; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright and his wife supported the Center for | ||||||
| 7 | Prevention of Abuse (CFPA) by donating money and their medical | ||||||
| 8 | practice building to serve as the organization's second | ||||||
| 9 | domestic violence emergency shelter in Pekin, which was named | ||||||
| 10 | the Carol House of Hope in memory of their late daughter, | ||||||
| 11 | Carol; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright loved golfing and playing tennis with | ||||||
| 13 | his friends; he also enjoyed traveling and drinking wine; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 15 | his brother, Dr. Robert M. "Buck" Wright; and his daughter, | ||||||
| 16 | Carol M. Wright; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright is survived by his wife; his son, Dr. | ||||||
| 18 | David N. (Kay) Wright; two grandsons; and one | ||||||
| 19 | great-granddaughter; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||

| 1 | Nelson A. "Pete" Wright III, M.D. and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 2 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 3 | him; and be it further | ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 5 | presented to the family of Dr. Wright as an expression of our | ||||||
| 6 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
