| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are sadden to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Matthew R. "Matt" Verde, who passed away | ||||||
| 4 | on November 24, 2024; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Matt Verde was born in Melrose Park on September | ||||||
| 6 | 5, 1975; he graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, | ||||||
| 7 | now known as Immaculate Conception Catholic Prep, in Elmhurst | ||||||
| 8 | in 1993; he served in the U.S. Marine Corps with distinction, | ||||||
| 9 | through which he spent time in Japan and Russia before being | ||||||
| 10 | honorably discharged; he married Jennifer Verde on April 24, | ||||||
| 11 | 2009; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Matt Verde pursued a career in the restaurant | ||||||
| 13 | industry due to his passion for hospitality and culinary | ||||||
| 14 | excellence, beginning his career at Rock Bottom Restaurant & | ||||||
| 15 | Brewery and continuing at The Capital Grille and U.S. Foods; | ||||||
| 16 | he opened his own restaurant, Neat Kitchen & Bar, in Westmont, | ||||||
| 17 | and he had recently opened a second location in Oswego; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Matt Verde gave back generously to the Westmont | ||||||
| 19 | community through fundraisers and donations, and he quickly | ||||||
| 20 | became a key figure in the Oswego business community; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Matt Verde's greatest joy was being a father to | ||||||

| 1 | his children, Austin and Savannah, and he enjoyed cheering on | ||||||
| 2 | his son at football games and his daughter at cheerleading | ||||||
| 3 | events; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Matt Verde touched the lives of everyone he met | ||||||
| 5 | with his warm smile and open heart; he will be remembered for | ||||||
| 6 | his generous spirit, friendly demeanor, and selfless nature; | ||||||
| 7 | and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Matt Verde was the husband of Jennifer; the | ||||||
| 9 | father of Austin and Savannah; the son of Robert (Amelia) | ||||||
| 10 | Verde and Teresa Verde; the brother of Sara (fiance, Russell | ||||||
| 11 | Mowry) Falk, Timothy (Jill) Verde, and Beth Smith; the | ||||||
| 12 | stepbrother of T.J. (Lisa) Holgado; the son-in-law of Janet | ||||||
| 13 | (Lou) Wright and Mick (Peggy) Skott; the brother-in-law of | ||||||
| 14 | Adam (Rachel) Skott, Lisa (Chris) Sabol, Kelly (Joe) Zavala, | ||||||
| 15 | Michael (Christina) Wright, and Cody Wright; a nephew to his | ||||||
| 16 | aunts and uncles; an uncle to his many nieces and nephews; and | ||||||
| 17 | a friend to many; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 20 | Matthew R. "Matt" Verde and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 21 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 22 | further | ||||||
