AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1366

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1366 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
514-19 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/14-19 new)
7    Sec. 14-19. Parental notice of right to be accompanied to
8meeting and of the IEP facilitation process; informational
9material on IEP facilitation.
10    (a) The notice provided to the parent or guardian prior to
11a meeting pursuant to subsection (g) of Section 14-8.02 shall
12inform a parent or guardian of the parent's or guardian's
13right to invite other individuals to the meeting to assist the
14parent or guardian, including individuals who have knowledge
15or special expertise regarding the child, advocates for the
16parent, guardian, or child, individuals who may help the

1parent or guardian feel more at ease at the meeting, or someone
2who will take notes of the meeting for the parent or guardian.
3The notice shall include a request that the parent or guardian
4inform the school prior to the meeting if the parent or
5guardian plans to bring another individual to the meeting so
6arrangements can be made to accommodate the additional
7participant.
8    (b) The State Board of Education shall prepare and
9distribute to each school district written informational
10material about the IEP facilitation process. The material may
11consist of a one-page document that briefly describes the
12process and how to request IEP facilitation. The informational
13material on IEP facilitation shall be disseminated by schools
14to parents and guardians using the same distribution methods
15employed to transmit other documents and information related
16to an IEP meeting to a parent or guardian.".
