| 1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1366 | ||||||
| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1366 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following: | ||||||
| 4 | "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section | ||||||
| 5 | 14-19 as follows: | ||||||
| 6 | (105 ILCS 5/14-19 new) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 14-19. Parental notice of right to be accompanied to | ||||||
| 8 | meeting and of the IEP facilitation process; informational | ||||||
| 9 | material on IEP facilitation. | ||||||
| 10 | (a) The notice provided to the parent or guardian prior to | ||||||
| 11 | a meeting pursuant to subsection (g) of Section 14-8.02 shall | ||||||
| 12 | inform a parent or guardian of the parent's or guardian's | ||||||
| 13 | right to invite other individuals to the meeting to assist the | ||||||
| 14 | parent or guardian, including individuals who have knowledge | ||||||
| 15 | or special expertise regarding the child, advocates for the | ||||||
| 16 | parent, guardian, or child, individuals who may help the | ||||||

| 1 | parent or guardian feel more at ease at the meeting, or someone | ||||||
| 2 | who will take notes of the meeting for the parent or guardian. | ||||||
| 3 | The notice shall include a request that the parent or guardian | ||||||
| 4 | inform the school prior to the meeting if the parent or | ||||||
| 5 | guardian plans to bring another individual to the meeting so | ||||||
| 6 | arrangements can be made to accommodate the additional | ||||||
| 7 | participant. | ||||||
| 8 | (b) The State Board of Education shall prepare and | ||||||
| 9 | distribute to each school district written informational | ||||||
| 10 | material about the IEP facilitation process. The material may | ||||||
| 11 | consist of a one-page document that briefly describes the | ||||||
| 12 | process and how to request IEP facilitation. The informational | ||||||
| 13 | material on IEP facilitation shall be disseminated by schools | ||||||
| 14 | to parents and guardians using the same distribution methods | ||||||
| 15 | employed to transmit other documents and information related | ||||||
| 16 | to an IEP meeting to a parent or guardian.". | ||||||
