| Amends the School Boards Article of the School Code. In provisions concerning the dismissal of teachers, includes releasing student record information to unauthorized parties, engaging in aggressive physical contact with a student or a member of staff if the physical contact does not serve to promote greater safety, and disparaging a student or a member of staff based on protected characteristics as sufficient causes to dismiss a teacher. Effective immediately. |

| 1 | | AN ACT concerning education. |
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
| 4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section |
| 5 | | 10-22.4 as follows: |
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/10-22.4) (from Ch. 122, par. 10-22.4) |
| 7 | | Sec. 10-22.4. Dismissal of teachers. To dismiss a teacher |
| 8 | | for incompetency, cruelty, negligence, immorality, or other |
| 9 | | sufficient cause, including releasing student record |
| 10 | | information to unauthorized parties, engaging in aggressive |
| 11 | | physical contact with a student or a member of staff if the |
| 12 | | physical contact does not serve to promote greater safety, or |
| 13 | | disparaging a student or a member of staff based on protected |
| 14 | | characteristics, to dismiss any teacher on the basis of |
| 15 | | performance, and to dismiss any teacher whenever, in its |
| 16 | | opinion, the teacher he is not qualified to teach, or |
| 17 | | whenever, in its opinion, the interests of the schools require |
| 18 | | it, subject, however, to the provisions of Sections 24-10 to |
| 19 | | 24-16.5, inclusive. Temporary mental or physical incapacity to |
| 20 | | perform teaching duties, as found by a medical examination, is |
| 21 | | not a cause for dismissal. Marriage is not a cause of removal. |
