AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3056 

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3056 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Animal Welfare Act is amended by adding 
5Section 18.5 as follows:
 
6    (225 ILCS 605/18.5 new)
7    Sec. 18.5. Age limit on the importation of dogs; 
8exceptions.
9    (a) A licensee may not import any dog into the State if the 
10licensee knows or has reason to know that the dog is under the 
11age of 8 weeks old. A licensee must inquire about the age of a 
12dog before importing it into the State.
13    (b) This Section does not apply to a pregnant dog or a 
14nursing dog kept with its puppies. To transport a nursing dog 
15with its puppies that are under the age of 8 weeks old, the 
16licensee must:

1        (1) have a licensed veterinarian determine that the 
2    nursing dog is in need of emergency care;
3        (2) transport or arrange for the transport of the 
4    nursing dog with the nursing dog's puppies; and
5        (3) not separate the nursing dog from the nursing 
6    dog's puppies for the purpose of sale or adoption before 
7    the puppies reach the age of 8 weeks old.".
