| Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Department of Transportation shall install a lighted stop sign at any intersection where 2 stop sign violations that resulted in either a fatality or an infliction of great bodily harm have occurred within a 3-month period. |

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by |
| 5 | | changing Section 11-302 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (625 ILCS 5/11-302) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-302) |
| 7 | | Sec. 11-302. Authority to designate through highway and |
| 8 | | stop and yield intersections. |
| 9 | | (a) The Department with reference to State highways under |
| 10 | | its jurisdiction, and local authorities with reference to |
| 11 | | other highways under their jurisdiction, may designate through |
| 12 | | highways and erect stop signs or yield signs at specified |
| 13 | | entrances thereto, or may designate any intersection as a stop |
| 14 | | intersection or as a yield intersection and erect stop signs |
| 15 | | or yield signs at one or more entrances to such intersection. |
| 16 | | Designation of through highways and stop or yield |
| 17 | | intersections and the erection of stop signs or yield signs on |
| 18 | | township or road district roads are subject to the written |
| 19 | | approval of the county engineer or superintendent of highways. |
| 20 | | (a-5) The Department shall install a lighted stop sign at |
| 21 | | any intersection where 2 stop sign violations that resulted in |
| 22 | | either a fatality or an infliction of great bodily harm have |
| 23 | | occurred within a 3-month period. |
