SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/1-117.7

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Changes the definition of "electric personal assistive mobility device" to mean a self-balancing 2 non-tandem wheeled device lacking pedals designed to transport only one person that is battery-powered or has an electric propulsion system that limits the maximum speed of the device to 15 miles per hour or less. Includes in the definition of "electric personal assistive mobility device" a device that is currently out-of-class. Excludes from the definition of "electric personal assistive mobility device" a low-speed electric bicycle, low-speed scooter, motorcycle, or motor vehicle.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
5changing Section 1-117.7 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/1-117.7)
7    Sec. 1-117.7. Electric personal assistive mobility device.
8A self-balancing 2 non-tandem wheeled device lacking pedals
9designed to transport only one person that is battery-powered
10or has with an electric propulsion system that limits the
11maximum speed of the device to 15 miles per hour or less.
12"Electric personal assistive mobility device" includes a
13device that is currently out-of-class, such as Onewheels,
14electric unicycles, and new and emerging micromobility
15devices, regardless of its market name. "Electric personal
16assistive mobility device" does not include a low-speed
17electric bicycle, low-speed scooter, motorcycle, or motor
18vehicle.
