SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/27-22.2  from Ch. 122, par. 27-22.2

    Amends the School Code. Requires students in the public schools in grades 6 through 12 to receive instruction in career and technical education, which may be satisfied by attending a field trip to a local career and technical education training center. Allows a school board to include the required instruction in the courses of study regularly taught in the public schools, provided that the instruction is given each year to all pupils in grades 6 through 12. Provides that each school board shall determine the minimum amount of instructional time required.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
527-22.2 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/27-22.2)  (from Ch. 122, par. 27-22.2)
7    Sec. 27-22.2. Career and technical education elective.
8    (a) Beginning with the 2027-2028 school year, students in
9the public schools in grades 6 through 12 shall receive
10instruction in career and technical education, which may be
11satisfied by attending a field trip to a local career and
12technical education training center. A school board may
13include the required instruction in the courses of study
14regularly taught in the public schools of the district,
15provided that the instruction is given each year to all pupils
16in grades 6 through 12. Each school board shall determine the
17minimum amount of instructional time required under this
18subsection (a).
19    (b) Whenever the school board of any school district which
20maintains grades 9 through 12 establishes a list of courses
21from which secondary school students each must elect at least
22one course, to be completed along with other course
23requirements as a pre-requisite to receiving a high school

1diploma, that school board must include on the list of such
2elective courses at least one course in career and technical
3education.
