SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
740 ILCS 90/7  from Ch. 71, par. 4c

    Amends the Innkeeper Protection Act. Provides that a hotel does not include any facility that provides emergency shelter or emergency housing to persons who are unhoused or unsheltered and (1) a person's admission to the facility is limited to a single overnight stay or is renewable on a daily basis; and (2) the facility does not require the payment of any fees by these persons for admission to the facility. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning civil law.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Innkeeper Protection Act is amended by
5changing Section 7 as follows:
 
6    (740 ILCS 90/7)  (from Ch. 71, par. 4c)
7    Sec. 7. The word "hotel" within the meaning of this act
8includes every building or structure kept, used, maintained,
9advertised, and held out to the public to be a place where
10lodging, or lodging and food, or apartments, or suites, or
11other accommodations are offered for adequate pay to travelers
12and guests, whether transient, permanent or residential, in
13which 25 or more rooms are used for the lodging, or lodging and
14food, or apartments, or suites, or other accommodations of
15such guests. For the purposes of this Act, a hotel does not
16include any facility that provides emergency shelter or
17emergency housing to persons who are unhoused or unsheltered
18and (1) a person's admission to the facility is limited to a
19single overnight stay or is renewable on a daily basis; and (2)
20the facility does not require the payment of any fees by these
21persons for admission to the facility.
22    The owner or keeper of such hotel, apartment hotel,
23residential hotel, motel, motor court, inn, boarding or

1lodging house shall post a copy of this law in conspicuous
2places upon the premises.

4    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
