SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
65 ILCS 5/5-2-21 new

    Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. Provides that, notwithstanding any other provision of law, for a municipality that has a population of at least 80,000 and that has adopted the managerial form of municipal government, a candidate's petition for nomination shall contain at least the number of signatures equal to 3% of the total vote cast for all candidates for mayor at the last preceding election for mayor in the municipality. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
5adding Section 5-2-21 as follows:
 
6    (65 ILCS 5/5-2-21 new)
7    Sec. 5-2-21. Petition of candidacy; municipalities of
880,000 or greater in population. Notwithstanding any other
9provision of law, for a municipality that has a population of
10at least 80,000 and that has adopted the managerial form of
11municipal government, a candidate's petition for nomination
12shall contain at least the number of signatures equal to 3% of
13the total vote cast for all candidates for mayor at the last
14preceding election for mayor in the municipality.
 
15    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
16becoming law.
