| 2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
| 3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to veterans who have served | ||||||
| 4 | their country and the State of Illinois; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Jackie Wayne "Jack" Steinman, the son of Joseph | ||||||
| 6 | Henry and Rosa Ellen (Rich) Steinman, was born in Hardinville | ||||||
| 7 | on December 8, 1949; he graduated from Newton Community High | ||||||
| 8 | School in 1968; he married Sandy Staley on August 24, 1978; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Jack Steinman served in the U.S. Army during the | ||||||
| 10 | Vietnam War; he began his military service on May 29, 1968, and | ||||||
| 11 | he was honorably discharged on March 15, 1971; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, During his tour in Vietnam, Jack Steinman was | ||||||
| 13 | awarded many medals for his heroic actions, including the | ||||||
| 14 | Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star | ||||||
| 15 | with one Bronze Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Letter "V", the | ||||||
| 16 | Purple Heart, the Air Medal/Numeral 6, the Army Commendation | ||||||
| 17 | Medal with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and one Letter "V" | ||||||
| 18 | Device, a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense | ||||||
| 19 | Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze | ||||||
| 20 | Service Star and one Silver Service Star, the Combat | ||||||
| 21 | Infantryman Badge, the Sharpshooter Badge with Auto Rifle Bar | ||||||
| 22 | and with Rifle Bar, the Civil Action Honor Medal, the Vietnam | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam | ||||||
| 2 | Campaign Medal/Ribbon with Device in 1960; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Jack Steinman worked as a custodian and bus | ||||||
| 4 | driver at Willow Hill Elementary School in the Jasper County | ||||||
| 5 | Community Unit School District No. 1, retiring after 20 years | ||||||
| 6 | of service; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Jack Steinman was a member of the Potter's House | ||||||
| 8 | Ministry and a life member of VFW Post #1769 in Effingham; he | ||||||
| 9 | enjoyed dancing, mushroom hunting, grilling, and spending time | ||||||
| 10 | with his family and friends; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Jack Steinman of Willow Hill passed away on July | ||||||
| 12 | 18, 2023; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Jack Steinman was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 14 | parents; his son, David Childress; and his brothers, Randy | ||||||
| 15 | Steinman and Dannie Steinman; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Jack Steinman was | ||||||
| 17 | survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandy Steinman; his | ||||||
| 18 | children, Sandra "Sam" (Mike) Hires, Jackie (Jeremy) Smock, | ||||||
| 19 | and Peggy (Ben) Stodden; his brothers, Dick (Carol) Steinman | ||||||
| 20 | and Sam (Brenda) Steinman; his mother-in-law, Leda Short; 16 | ||||||
| 21 | grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 2 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
| 3 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the junction of | ||||||
| 4 | Illinois Route 49 and Illinois Route 33 in Willow Hill as the | ||||||
| 5 | "Jackie Wayne "Jack" Steinman Memorial Highway"; and be it | ||||||
| 6 | further | ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
| 8 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with | ||||||
| 9 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
| 10 | giving notice of the name "Jackie Wayne "Jack" Steinman | ||||||
| 11 | Memorial Highway"; and be it further | ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 13 | presented to the family of Jack Steinman, the Mayor of Willow | ||||||
| 14 | Hill, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of | ||||||
| 15 | Transportation. | ||||||
