| 1 | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Coach Neil Alexander of | ||||||
| 4 | Lincoln Community High School on his 1,000th career victory as | ||||||
| 5 | a boys' basketball coach; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Coach Alexander's impressive career began as a | ||||||
| 7 | student athlete at Nokomis High School in Montgomery County; | ||||||
| 8 | he played for four years at Monmouth College, where he was | ||||||
| 9 | later inducted into the Monmouth College Hall of Fame in 1998; | ||||||
| 10 | he later earned a master's degree from Western Illinois | ||||||
| 11 | University; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Coach Alexander began coaching at Joy Westmer | ||||||
| 13 | High School, later coaching at Monmouth Yorkwood High School | ||||||
| 14 | and then at Bushnell-Prairie City High School for 11 years; | ||||||
| 15 | after his time there, he became the head coach of the boys | ||||||
| 16 | basketball team at Lincoln Community High School; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Coach Alexander, in his time at Lincoln Community | ||||||
| 18 | High School, has led his teams to 26 seasons with 20 or more | ||||||
| 19 | wins, 19 regional championships, five super-sectional | ||||||
| 20 | appearances, and four Elite Eight state tournament runs in | ||||||
| 21 | 1999, 2005, 2007, and 2014, with the 2014 run resulting in a | ||||||
| 22 | state runner-up finish; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Coach Alexander, with his trademark "1-2-2" zone, | ||||||
| 2 | is the winningest coach in Lincoln Community High School | ||||||
| 3 | history, credited with more than 800 of his wins during his | ||||||
| 4 | time at LCHS; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Coach Alexander's boys' basketball team at | ||||||
| 6 | Lincoln Community High School, the Railers, boasted impressive | ||||||
| 7 | statistics under his tutelage, with the Railers achieving a | ||||||
| 8 | record of 26 wins and 6 losses and setting a program record of | ||||||
| 9 | allowing an average of only 34.2 points per game during the | ||||||
| 10 | 2022-2023 season; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Coach Alexander has earned the respect of the | ||||||
| 12 | students, players, and people of Lincoln, with his work as an | ||||||
| 13 | educator, coach, athletic director, and mentor to his players, | ||||||
| 14 | and he has forged a culture of accountability, discipline, | ||||||
| 15 | pride, and putting the team first among his players; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Coach Alexander's influence extends beyond the | ||||||
| 17 | city of Lincoln; he served as the president of the Illinois | ||||||
| 18 | Basketball Coaches Association from 2017 to 2019, was inducted | ||||||
| 19 | into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame | ||||||
| 20 | in 2004, and received the association's Chuck Rolinski | ||||||
| 21 | Achievement Award in 2020; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Coach Alexander has achieved considerable success | ||||||
| 2 | as a basketball coach, and he credits his success to his | ||||||
| 3 | players, assistant coaches, staff, schools, communities, and | ||||||
| 4 | family; he often praises his wife of 53 years, Denise, his | ||||||
| 5 | children, Tammy (Scott), Geoff (Kiersten), and Gregg (Nicole), | ||||||
| 6 | as well as his grandchildren and great granddaughter for their | ||||||
| 7 | continuous support; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Coach Alexander has not only brought immense | ||||||
| 9 | success for boys' basketball but has also guided generations | ||||||
| 10 | of players through his coaching and mentorship; therefore, be | ||||||
| 11 | it | ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 13 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
| 14 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we congratulate Coach Neil | ||||||
| 15 | Alexander of Lincoln Community High School on his 1,000th | ||||||
| 16 | career victory as a boys' basketball coach, as well as express | ||||||
| 17 | our gratitude for the impact he has had on generations of young | ||||||
| 18 | men throughout the State of Illinois; and be it further | ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to Coach Neil Alexander and Lincoln Community High | ||||||
