| 2 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General |
| 3 | | Assembly pays honor and respect to truly great individuals who |
| 4 | | have served our country and, in doing so, have made the |
| 5 | | ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant First Class Kyle B. Wehrly, the son of |
| 7 | | Reverend Peter Wehrly and Nita Cross, was born in Galesburg; |
| 8 | | and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, SFC Wehrly joined the Illinois Army National |
| 10 | | Guard on September 28, 1995; he graduated from Galesburg High |
| 11 | | School in 1996 and studied at Spoon River Community College |
| 12 | | and Carl Sandburg College; he married Janet Kay Hays on May 8, |
| 13 | | 1999; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, SFC Wehrly was a member of Bethel Baptist Church |
| 15 | | and an Illinois High School Association (IHSA) soccer referee; |
| 16 | | he enjoyed softball, hunting, fishing, golfing, tennis, and |
| 17 | | woodworking in his free time; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, SFC Wehrly bravely served in the Illinois Army |
| 19 | | National Guard with the 123rd Field Artillery Regiment; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, SFC Wehrly was killed in action on November 3, |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, During his service, SFC Wehrly was awarded the |
| 3 | | Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Army |
| 4 | | Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, |
| 5 | | National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global |
| 6 | | War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, |
| 7 | | Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NCO Professional Development |
| 8 | | Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Illinois Long and Honorable |
| 9 | | Service Medal, Illinois Military Attendance Ribbon, Illinois |
| 10 | | State Active Duty Ribbon, Army Combat Action Badge, Expert |
| 11 | | Rifle Badge, Expert Pistol Badge, and Expert Field Artillery |
| 12 | | Badge; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, SFC Wehrly is survived by his wife, Janet; his |
| 14 | | daughter, Kylee Kay (Wehrly) Brody; his father, Reverend Peter |
| 15 | | (Susie) Miester Wehrly; his mother, Nita (Rick) Cross; his |
| 16 | | grandmothers, Betty Gardner and June Wehrly; his brother, |
| 17 | | Lance J. Wehrly; and his sisters, Victoria, Jaquita, and |
| 18 | | Shanna Wehrly; therefore, be it |
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 20 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |
| 21 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of |
| 22 | | U.S. Route 150 within Galesburg city limits as "SFC Kyle |
| 23 | | Wehrly Memorial Highway"; and be it further |

| 1 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation |
| 2 | | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with |
| 3 | | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs |
| 4 | | giving notice of the name "SFC Kyle Wehrly Memorial Highway"; |
| 5 | | and be it further |
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
| 7 | | presented to the family of SFC Wehrly and the Secretary of the |
| 8 | | Illinois Department of Transportation. |
