HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to truly great individuals who
4have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sergeant First Class Kyle B. Wehrly, the son of
7Reverend Peter Wehrly and Nita Cross, was born in Galesburg;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, SFC Wehrly joined the Illinois Army National
10Guard on September 28, 1995; he graduated from Galesburg High
11School in 1996 and studied at Spoon River Community College
12and Carl Sandburg College; he married Janet Kay Hays on May 8,
131999; and
 
14    WHEREAS, SFC Wehrly was a member of Bethel Baptist Church
15and an Illinois High School Association (IHSA) soccer referee;
16he enjoyed softball, hunting, fishing, golfing, tennis, and
17woodworking in his free time; and
 
18    WHEREAS, SFC Wehrly bravely served in the Illinois Army
19National Guard with the 123rd Field Artillery Regiment; and
 
20    WHEREAS, SFC Wehrly was killed in action on November 3,

12005 in Ashraf, Iraq; and
 
2    WHEREAS, During his service, SFC Wehrly was awarded the
3Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Army
4Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal,
5National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global
6War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal,
7Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NCO Professional Development
8Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Illinois Long and Honorable
9Service Medal, Illinois Military Attendance Ribbon, Illinois
10State Active Duty Ribbon, Army Combat Action Badge, Expert
11Rifle Badge, Expert Pistol Badge, and Expert Field Artillery
12Badge; and
 
13    WHEREAS, SFC Wehrly is survived by his wife, Janet; his
14daughter, Kylee Kay (Wehrly) Brody; his father, Reverend Peter
15(Susie) Miester Wehrly; his mother, Nita (Rick) Cross; his
16grandmothers, Betty Gardner and June Wehrly; his brother,
17Lance J. Wehrly; and his sisters, Victoria, Jaquita, and
18Shanna Wehrly; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
21SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of
22U.S. Route 150 within Galesburg city limits as "SFC Kyle
23Wehrly Memorial Highway"; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
2is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
3State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
4giving notice of the name "SFC Kyle Wehrly Memorial Highway";
5and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7presented to the family of SFC Wehrly and the Secretary of the
8Illinois Department of Transportation.
