SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2

    Proposes to amend the Executive Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that a person may not be elected to the office of Governor for terms totalling more than 8 years. Provides that service prior to the date of the adoption of the amendment shall be considered in the calculation of a person's service. Provides that any person holding the office of Governor at the time of the adoption of the proposed amendment to the Illinois Constitution who meets the specified term limitation shall be allowed to complete his or her term of office. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption
8of this resolution a proposition to add Section 2.5 to Article
9IV, amend Section 2 of Article V, and amend Section 3 of
10Article VIII of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

THE EXECUTIVE

13    (ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2)
14SECTION 2. TERMS
15    (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall
16hold office for four years beginning on the second Monday of
17January after their election and, except in the case of the
18Lieutenant Governor, until their successors are qualified.
19They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and every
20four years thereafter.
21    (b) A person may not be elected to the office of Governor
22for terms totalling more than 8 years. Service prior to the
23date of the adoption of this amendment to the Illinois

1Constitution shall be considered in the calculation of a
2person's service. Any person holding the office of Governor at
3the time of the adoption of this amendment to the Illinois
4Constitution who meets the term limitation set by this Section
5shall be allowed to complete his or her term of office.

SCHEDULE
8    This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
9declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
10Constitutional Amendment Act.
