CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT HC0020 Introduced , by Rep. Tom Weber SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED: | | | Proposes to amend the Executive Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that a person may not be elected to the office of Governor for terms totalling more than 8 years. Provides that service prior to the date of the adoption of the amendment shall be considered in the calculation of a person's service. Provides that any person holding the office of Governor at the time of the adoption of the proposed amendment to the Illinois Constitution who meets the specified term limitation shall be allowed to complete his or her term of office. Effective upon being declared adopted. |

| 8 | | of this resolution a proposition to add Section 2.5 to Article |
| 9 | | IV, amend Section 2 of Article V, and amend Section 3 of |
| 10 | | Article VIII of the Illinois Constitution as follows: |

| 14 | | SECTION 2. TERMS |
| 15 | | (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall |
| 16 | | hold office for four years beginning on the second Monday of |
| 17 | | January after their election and, except in the case of the |
| 18 | | Lieutenant Governor, until their successors are qualified. |
| 19 | | They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and every |
| 20 | | four years thereafter. |
| 21 | | (b) A person may not be elected to the office of Governor |
