SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2

    Proposes to amend the Executive Article of the Illinois Constitution. Prohibits a person from serving more than two terms as Governor. Effective upon being declared adopted. Applies to the gubernatorial election in 2030 and thereafter.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption
8of this resolution a proposition to amend the Illinois
9Constitution by changing Section 2 of Article 5 as follows:

THE EXECUTIVE

12    (ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2)
13SECTION 2. TERMS
14    (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall
15hold office for four years beginning on the second Monday of
16January after their election and, except in the case of the
17Lieutenant Governor, until their successors are qualified.
18They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and every
19four years thereafter.
20    (b) A person may not serve more than two terms of office as
21Governor. A person who has served two terms as Governor may not
22serve another term of office in that office.
23    A person is considered to serve a term of office for the

1purpose of this subsection if the person is elected or
2appointed to serve any portion of the term.

SCHEDULE
5    This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
6declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
7Constitutional Amendment Act and applies to the gubernatorial
8election in 2030 and thereafter.
