HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize Brett's First Responders on 
4its continued efforts in serving families of first responders 
5who are facing tragedy and financial hardship; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Brett's First Responders was created in honor of 
7Firefighter Brett A. Korves of the Swansea Fire Department, 
8who was killed when an individual evading police hit his car at 
9a high rate of speed in April 2019, leaving behind his wife, 
10Alex, his 18-month-old son, Brock, and a unborn daughter, who 
11was later named Brett Grace after her father; while his family 
12received incredible support from family, friends, and the 
13community, they did not qualify for other types of financial 
14support due to his being killed outside the line of duty; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Brett's First Responders was created to assist 
16families of first responders who find themselves facing 
17situations similar to that of the family of Brett Korves, 
18ensuring all families of first responders have support during 
19times of tragedy and financial hardship; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Brett's First Responders provides financial 
21support to families of first responders killed in 
22circumstances outside the line of duty or those enduring

1sickness, injury, or significant financial hardships unrelated 
2to their careers as first responders; the organization also 
3provides grants to first responder cadet programs in need of 
4financial assistance; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Brett's First Responders, to date, has donated 
6over $215,000 to 45 families of first responders and eight 
7fire cadet programs; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
9HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
10we recognize Brett's First Responders on its unrelenting 
11commitment to serve and assist families of first responders 
12facing tragedy and financial hardship, and we commend the 
13organization for continuing the legacy of service of its 
14namesake, Firefighter Brett A. Korves of the Swansea Fire 
15Department; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to Brett's First Responders as an expression of our 
18esteem and respect.
