HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph
4Henry Holifield; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield was born to William Lovelace and
6Irene Holifield in Eutaw, Alabama on July 19, 1946; he was the
7fifth of seven children; he graduated from Carver High School
8in 1964; he married Barbara Hall in 1973; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield was a tenacious person, eager to
10achieve the goals he set for himself; he moved to Chicago in
111966, where he worked as a truck driver; he was later hired at
12Ford Motor Company in 1970, making lasting friendships while
13working there before retiring in 2000 after 30 years of
14service as a welder; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield strove to be a good neighbor and
16friend and was always ready to assist anyone who needed help;
17he was a man of many talents and loved tinkering with and
18repairing things; if he was unable to fix something, he relied
19on his group of friends who were skilled in different areas; he
20always took time to encourage the young men in his life and
21believed in "paying it forward"; and

1    WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield committed to his faith at an
2early age, and his faith never wavered; he most recently
3attended St. Sabina Church, where he enjoyed the sermons and
4fellowship, and he often watched various televangelists until
5he fell asleep; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield enjoyed traveling in his
7retirement years, preferring to drive due to his love of a good
8road trip; he was also a sports fan and was always ready to
9watch a game, especially if it included the University of
10Alabama football team; he also loved watching a good baseball
11game, finding later in life that nine innings were perfect for
12napping; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield was a brother, husband, father,
14and uncle, but his favorite role was as "Poppy", the name his
15grandchildren gave him; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we mourn the passing of Joseph Henry Holifield and extend our
19sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
20and loved him; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Joseph Holifield as an expression
