| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph |
| 4 | | Henry Holifield; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield was born to William Lovelace and |
| 6 | | Irene Holifield in Eutaw, Alabama on July 19, 1946; he was the |
| 7 | | fifth of seven children; he graduated from Carver High School |
| 8 | | in 1964; he married Barbara Hall in 1973; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield was a tenacious person, eager to |
| 10 | | achieve the goals he set for himself; he moved to Chicago in |
| 11 | | 1966, where he worked as a truck driver; he was later hired at |
| 12 | | Ford Motor Company in 1970, making lasting friendships while |
| 13 | | working there before retiring in 2000 after 30 years of |
| 14 | | service as a welder; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield strove to be a good neighbor and |
| 16 | | friend and was always ready to assist anyone who needed help; |
| 17 | | he was a man of many talents and loved tinkering with and |
| 18 | | repairing things; if he was unable to fix something, he relied |
| 19 | | on his group of friends who were skilled in different areas; he |
| 20 | | always took time to encourage the young men in his life and |
| 21 | | believed in "paying it forward"; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield committed to his faith at an |
| 2 | | early age, and his faith never wavered; he most recently |
| 3 | | attended St. Sabina Church, where he enjoyed the sermons and |
| 4 | | fellowship, and he often watched various televangelists until |
| 5 | | he fell asleep; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield enjoyed traveling in his |
| 7 | | retirement years, preferring to drive due to his love of a good |
| 8 | | road trip; he was also a sports fan and was always ready to |
| 9 | | watch a game, especially if it included the University of |
| 10 | | Alabama football team; he also loved watching a good baseball |
| 11 | | game, finding later in life that nine innings were perfect for |
| 12 | | napping; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Holifield was a brother, husband, father, |
| 14 | | and uncle, but his favorite role was as "Poppy", the name his |
| 15 | | grandchildren gave him; therefore, be it |
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 17 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 18 | | we mourn the passing of Joseph Henry Holifield and extend our |
| 19 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
| 20 | | and loved him; and be it further |
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 | | presented to the family of Joseph Holifield as an expression |
