HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The people of Syria have long endured tremendous hardship, suffering under the oppressive rule of Bashar al-Assad, whose regime has committed grave human rights violations, suppressed political freedoms, and inflicted immense destruction upon the country; and

WHEREAS, The Syrian people have demonstrated extraordinary resilience, courage, and determination in their struggle for freedom, dignity, and self-determination; and

WHEREAS, After years of struggle, the people of Syria have achieved a historic victory with the liberation of their nation and the fall of the Assad dictatorship; and

WHEREAS, This victory represents a new chapter in Syria's history, paving the way for a future built on democracy, justice, and the rule of law, where the rights and aspirations of all Syrians are respected and protected; and

WHEREAS, The Syrian diaspora, including many Syrian Americans, has played an essential role in advocating for justice, supporting humanitarian efforts, and keeping the hope of a free Syria alive; and

WHEREAS, The international community, including the United States, must continue to support the Syrian people in their transition toward a stable and democratic government, ensuring accountability for past crimes and aiding in the reconstruction of the nation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the people of Syria on their liberation and the fall of the dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we express our solidarity with the Syrian people as they embark on the path toward rebuilding their country and establishing a just and democratic society; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to representatives of the Syrian community and organizations advocating for a free and democratic Syria as a symbol of our support and recognition.
