HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Fred H. 
4Bright Jr., the former Mayor of the Village of East Alton, who 
5passed away on February 25, 2025; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Fred Bright was born in Granite City on June 24, 
71942; he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; he was 
8a graduate of the FBI Academy; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Fred Bright embarked on a lengthy career in law 
10enforcement, beginning with the Madison County Sheriff's 
11Department at the Madison County Jail; he later joined the 
12Alton Police Department; he then served in the role of Chief of 
13Police for the Village of East Alton, and he proceeded to serve 
14as a major with the Madison County Sheriff's Department; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Fred Bright served as Mayor of the Village of 
16East Alton for five terms; while he held office, he was known 
17for his commitment to the village and the concern he showed for 
18his employees, always making sure they had what they needed; 
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Fred Bright, in addition to his public service, 
21was an insurance agent for State Farm since 1983, and he was

1actively involved in a number of community organizations, 
2including the Wood River Masonic Lodge and the Ainad Shrine 
3Temple; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Fred Bright will be remembered for dedicating 
5much of his life to public service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Fred Bright was preceded in death by his wife, 
7Shirley R. (Rieken) Bright; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Fred Bright is survived by two daughters, four 
9grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
11HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
12we mourn the passing of Fred H. Bright Jr., the former Mayor of 
13the Village of East Alton, and extend our sincere condolences 
14to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be 
15it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
17presented to the family of Fred Bright and to the Village of 
18East Alton as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
