| 2 | | WHEREAS, Neonatal Nurses Week, also known as Neonatal |
| 3 | | Intensive Care Unit Nurses Week, is an annual celebration of |
| 4 | | the hard work and dedication of the nurses who take care of |
| 5 | | babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU); and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The NICU is a unit in a hospital that provides |
| 7 | | around-the-clock special care to sick or preterm babies from |
| 8 | | health care providers who have special training and equipment |
| 9 | | to give babies the best possible care; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Common health conditions treated in the NICU |
| 11 | | include birth defects, breathing problems, feeding issues, |
| 12 | | gastroschisis, infections, jaundice, problems maintaining a |
| 13 | | normal body temperature, problems maintaining normal sugar |
| 14 | | levels, retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), and surgical |
| 15 | | conditions; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Every baby in a NICU is cared for by many |
| 17 | | different health care professionals, including registered |
| 18 | | nurses, nurse managers, neonatal nurse practitioners, clinical |
| 19 | | nurse specialists, developmental care specialists, and charge |
| 20 | | nurses; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Neonatal nurses perform life-saving and |
