HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Henry "Maurice" Nesbit 
4Sr. on the occasion of Celebration Park of the Robbins Park 
5District being renamed in his honor; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Henry Nesbit has been a lifelong resident of 
7Robbins, where he has served as a community activist, coach, 
8and mentor to youth and teens for more than 60 years; he 
9previously served in the U.S. Army and worked for the Blue 
10Island Park District at the California Garden Facility; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Henry Nesbit is a founding board member and the 
12longest-serving commissioner of the Robbins Park District, 
13having provided 30 years of dedicated service; during his 
14tenure, he negotiated the land acquisition of Indian Field in 
15Robbins to expand the development of the park district, and he 
16was an advocate and pioneer for minority park districts 
17throughout the Chicago Southland and the State of Illinois; 
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Henry Nesbit, affectionately known as "Coach 
20Nes", has further given back to his community as a charter 
21member of the Illinois Ethnic Minority Society, a commissioner 
22of the Robbins Little League Baseball Program, and a founder

1of the Lady Rockets Girls Basketball Program; he has also 
2offered financial assistance and scholarships for student 
3athletes from Robbins to attend college; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Henry Nesbit is a true family man who is 
5well-regarded and respected in the Robbins community and the 
6Chicago Southland region; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Henry Nesbit will be honored by the Robbins Park 
8District through its renaming of Celebration Park as Henry 
9"Maurice" Nesbit Sr. Memorial Park on April 19, 2025; 
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
12HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we congratulate Henry "Maurice" Nesbit Sr. on Celebration Park 
14of the Robbins Park District being renamed Henry "Maurice" 
15Nesbit Sr. Memorial Park in his honor; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17delivered to Henry Nesbit as a symbol of our esteem and 
18respect.
