HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deepest sympathy
3that the members of the Illinois House of Representatives
4acknowledge the death of Wadee Alfayoumi, whose life was
5unjustly taken due to hatred and bigotry targeting his
6Palestinian identity; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Wadee Alfayoumi, the child of Hanan Shaheen and
8Odai Alfayoumi, was a 6-year-old Palestinian Muslim-American
9boy who was an angelic and beloved son, family member,
10classmate, and friend; he was regarded as an energetic and
11radiant light whose heart was full of love, his spirit was
12bright, and his kindness knew no bounds; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Wadee Alfayoumi found joy in joining his parents
14in prayer, embracing faith with a devotion that defined his
15character, and he carried a deep care for the world around him,
16nurturing a love for the planet and all those he encountered;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, On October 14, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., Wadee
19Alfayoumi was brutally stabbed 26 times by a hate-driven
20perpetrator and tragically succumbed to his injuries; and
 
21    WHEREAS, With a future full of promise, Wadee Alfayoumi's

1laughter, warmth, and boundless love left an indelible mark on
2everyone he met, and his untimely death represents a profound
3loss not only to his family and loved ones but also to the
4entire community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Though his time with us was far too brief, Wadee
6Alfayoumi's love and light continue to touch our hearts every
7day, and his memory will forever be a guiding force and a
8reminder of innocence, compassion, and the enduring power of a
9responsibility toward justice that our world needs; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Wadee Alfayoumi's tragic passing serves as a
11stark reminder of the urgent need to confront and combat all
12forms of prejudice, discrimination, and violence and to strive
13tirelessly for a world where every individual is valued,
14respected, and embraced for who they are; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn the passing of Wadee Alfayoumi and extend our sincere
18condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
19him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Wadee Alfayoumi,
21celebrate his remarkable life, and reaffirm our commitment to
22building a more inclusive, equitable, and compassionate

1society where every individual can live free from fear,
2discrimination, and violence; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That we stand in solidarity with the family and
4friends of Wadee Alfayoumi in their grief and mourning; and be
5it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Wadee Alfayoumi as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
