| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Norman "Norm" Fanning on | ||||||
| 4 | the occasion of the Elwood Fire Protection District Training | ||||||
| 5 | Tower Facility being renamed in his honor; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Norm Fanning was born to James and Albertha | ||||||
| 7 | Fanning in Joliet on December 16, 1932; he attended Washington | ||||||
| 8 | Junior High School and Joliet Central High School; he worked | ||||||
| 9 | briefly at Goldblatt's Department Store before being drafted | ||||||
| 10 | into the U.S. Army in 1953, serving as a staff sergeant first | ||||||
| 11 | class during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged | ||||||
| 12 | in 1954; he and his family moved to Elwood in 1965; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Norm Fanning worked as a welder for Caterpillar, | ||||||
| 14 | Inc. in Joliet for 33 years, retiring in 1989; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Norm Fanning served as a trustee of the Elwood | ||||||
| 16 | Fire Protection District from May 1, 1987 until June 30, 2023, | ||||||
| 17 | dedicating 36 years of service to the fire district; during | ||||||
| 18 | his tenure, he served as president for a time; he also served | ||||||
| 19 | as a school bus driver for Elwood Community Schools, ensuring | ||||||
| 20 | the safety of countless children for over a decade; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Norm Fanning volunteered with the Memorial Squad | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery from 2007 to 2021, | ||||||
| 2 | and he has served on the Jackson Township Board since 1993; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Norm Fanning is the husband of Mary Lou Fanning; | ||||||
| 4 | he is the father of Brenda and Craig from his first marriage | ||||||
| 5 | and the grandfather of two; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Norm Fanning has dedicated himself to serving | ||||||
| 7 | others through a life of service, integrity, and community | ||||||
| 8 | spirit, and his contributions to Elwood have had a positive | ||||||
| 9 | impact on the community and its residents; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, In recognition of Norm Fanning's unwavering | ||||||
| 11 | dedication to service, the Elwood Fire Protection District | ||||||
| 12 | Training Tower Facility has been renamed as the Norman Fanning | ||||||
| 13 | Training Facility; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 15 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 16 | we congratulate Norman "Norm" Fanning on the Elwood Fire | ||||||
| 17 | Protection District Training Facility being renamed in his | ||||||
| 18 | honor as the Norman Fanning Training Facility, and we thank | ||||||
| 19 | him for his decades of service to the Village of Elwood; and be | ||||||
| 20 | it further | ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
